Big Mama’s Southern Style “TEA CAKES”

If you grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, I am sure you remember going to the country on the weekends. And if you remember going to the country, I know you remember the sweet smell of “Tea Cakes”. At Big Mama’s house, you could smell them as soon as you hit the porch.

Big Mama’s Southern Style “TEA CAKES”

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • ½ tsp Baking Soda
  • cups Sugar
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour

Instructions
 

  • Using a mixer, cream the butter and sugar together
  • Add eggs, one at a time and continue to cream until smooth
  • Mix all of the dry ingredients together and fold into the creamed mixture
  • Add the vanilla (Do not over mix)
  • Cover mixture with a damp cloth and refrigerate for 45 minutes
  • Heat oven to 325°
  • Place spoonfuls of mixture on cookie sheet
  • Bake for 8 minutes
  • Remove cookies from oven and let cool, then store in airtight container
